Petition updateSTOP OVERDEVELOPMENT IN HUNTINGTON!THOUSANDS OF NEW APARTMENTS AT 110 & LIE?!

The Huntington Town Board is proposing a radical 640-acre zone change in Melville that will effectively urbanize the area.

The entire area bounded by the LIE, Route 110, Ruland Road and Pinelawn Road is to be changed from its current zoning to allow developers to build high density mixed-use buildings with offices/retail and three floors of apartments. Conservative estimates show that this zoning change will allow MORE THAN TEN THOUSAND NEW RESIDENTS in one square mile. The impact on the roads and communities will be nothing short of staggering.

This proposal VIOLATES the Comprehensive Plan for Huntington — a contract REQUIRING FULL DISCLOSURE of a master plan for managing this RADICAL POPULATION INCREASE.

Town officials are also VIOLATING STATE LAW by holding public hearings without first having an environmental impact study done. Residents deserve FULL DISCLOSURE OF FACTS about the impacts of this radical change before town officials try to “sell” the idea in public hearings.

Town officials have had ample time to initiate the required studies and consult with professional planners. But they have not done so. Instead, they are pushing ahead with an urbanization plan that will irrevocably change Melville and the surrounding communities.

ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE:

1. Write to town officials at:

Melvilleredevelopment@huntingtonny.gov

2. Attend the first planned public hearing:

APRIL 30, 7pm, at West Hollow Middle School
