Thank you so much for supporting this petition to give Huntington residents a voice in local development! Please help us strengthen our campaign by sharing it on your social media and with your like-minded contacts! Please remind your contacts that:
- In recent years, developers have destroyed many treasured acres of open land and horse facilities in order to build luxury high density housing: Indian Hills, Kensington Estates, the Thomas School, and Spring Street are but a few examples.
- Developers have successfully changed the zoning in single-family neighborhoods to build high density housing, forever altering the character of the community.
- Town officials may be compromised by the development lobby. The development lobby contributed over $20,000 to each of the new Town Council members’ campaigns, and the Zoning Board of Apprals Chair recently shut down all public comment on a controversial development plan. Our water department even sold land to enable the development on Spring Street to be built!
- The developers’ push to get richer by building as much as possible in Huntington shows no signs of slowing. Recent and current plans include a radical rezoning scheme in Dix Hills and numerous plans to expand housing and commercial activity in sensitive areas such as Centerport’s Mill Pond.
Civic groups have banded together to stem this tide, but we need numbers behind us! If you want to save a Huntington from overdevelopment, PLEASE sign and share this petition!
