Did you know that you WILL be charged a minimum of $300 if you get over 6 points on your license?

Due to the recent economic downturn, Albany has been trying to find new creative ways to take more money from you to balance their budget. You may have noticed new taxes, more frequent traffic tickets or higher penalties.

In November of 2004 NYS passed a law enacting the Driver Responsibility Assessment Fee (Section 503 (4) of NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law) that states if you acquire more than 6 points on your license in an 18 month period, you have to paid a minumum of $100 per year for 3 years= $300. Each additional point over 6, you are charged an addition $25 per year for 3 years.  THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE. (One speeding ticket can be over 6 points.)
