Hello, my name is Delaney Shultz and I am an artist and single mom. For the past few years now, I have been a subject of online hate and harassment due to my art. There are accusations of me stealing and copying artists, which I am not, and whether or not it may be true the amount of hate and slander I have received is extraordinary and life debilitating. They have targeted my family and my place of work. My family has urged me to take legal action but I am afraid no lawyer will take my case due to me not really knowing who these people are, etc. I decided to start an online petition to help me gain some traction and support from these people. They leave me with no way of explaining myself to people they message that follow and befriend me and they just block me with no explanation. They leave horrible comments, quote tweets, make accounts about me and make fun of my art. It is draining my mental health and impacts my family life to where we argue over these people. I need help and I need the help of the internet and my friends. I’m afraid this can happen and probably does to many other artists as well and there needs to be a stop to it.
To add some statistics - According to sciencedirect.com cyberbullying increases suicidal thoughts by 14.5% and suicidal attempts by 8%. Awareness is key to prevent online harassment according to topper.com . People who experience cyber bullying are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide.
