The Issue

As a Doctor of Traditional Naturopathy, the threat posed by Ohio Senate Bill 385 is not just a professional concern, it is a deeply personal issue that strikes at the core of our community's health and wellness. This bill, if enacted, will make the practice of traditional naturopathy illegal, stripping away our right to choose natural and holistic healthcare options. It is crucial that we take immediate action to protect the integrity of our health care system and maintain the availability of diverse medical practices.

Naturopathy provides a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on wellness and prevention through natural remedies and practices. Many Ohioans have greatly benefited from these approaches, finding relief and help where conventional medicine falls short. This access to natural health solutions should be a right, not a privilege, and removing this choice is a direct affront to our personal freedoms.

In a healthcare system burdened by rising costs and limited access, Ohioans deserve the ability to choose affordable, non-invasive natural options that empower them to take control of their well-being.

The reality is that Senate Bill 385 does not reflect the interests or desires of Ohio's citizens. A survey from the Institute for Natural Medicine reveals that 69% of Americans use alternative and complementary medicine modalities, and 75% believe these options are more aligned with their personal values and lifestyle choices. Restricting naturopathic practices will only serve to silence these voices and homogenize our healthcare system.

The proposed legislation not only threatens the livelihood of health practitioners but also endangers the health of countless individuals who rely on these services. Imagine a future where your ability to choose how you care for your health is severely limited. This is more than about maintaining professional practice; it's about protecting our right to a diverse, patient-centred healthcare landscape.

While this bill “legalizes” licensed Naturopaths most people do not realize what all this means. A licensed naturopath goes to medical school and receives a medical school training with some herbal and natural training. This bill would make the very few who completed this out of state training your only natural health option. It would put your Traditional Naturopaths who completed doctorate level training and clinical hours as well as herbalist, Homeopathics practitioners, and any other non-licensed but highly trained natural health practitioners not only unable to practice freely but at risk for prosecution and felony charges for offering their natural health services.

Let us stand together to oppose Ohio Senate Bill 385. We call on the Ohio Legislature to recognize the value of naturopathic medicine and preserve the citizens' right to access holistic health services. Please join us in signing this petition to ensure that the natural health options remain a vibrant and vital part of our community. Your signature is not just a vote for naturopathy, but a step towards empowering health freedom for all in Ohio.
