Stop Ohio’s Unsafe “Abortion Reversal” Bill

Stop Ohio’s Unsafe “Abortion Reversal” Bill
The Issue
Ohioans deserve honest, medically accurate healthcare—not state-mandated misinformation.
A newly introduced bill in the Ohio legislature would require doctors to give patients information about “abortion reversal” after they take the first pill in a medication abortion. Supporters say it offers options. But medical experts and advocates warn it does something far more dangerous: it spreads unproven claims, creates confusion, and risks patient safety.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, claims about medication abortion reversal are not supported by scientific evidence. Advocates also point to a halted study due to safety concerns. Forcing doctors to present this information anyway puts them in an impossible position—caught between their duty to provide accurate care and a legal requirement to share disputed or potentially harmful guidance.
Patients facing deeply personal decisions deserve clarity, not coercion. They deserve care rooted in evidence, not political mandates that may pressure or shame them in vulnerable moments. When the state inserts itself into the exam room with questionable information, it undermines trust between patients and providers—and that has real consequences.
This bill also raises serious concerns in light of Ohio voters’ approval of a reproductive rights amendment in 2023, which was intended to protect individuals’ ability to make their own healthcare decisions without undue interference.
We are calling on Ohio lawmakers and state leaders to reject this legislation.
Protect the integrity of medical care. Respect the expertise of doctors. Trust patients to make informed decisions without being subjected to confusing or unsupported claims.
Ohio can—and must—do better than this.
