The Issue

I am deeply concerned about Ohio House Bill 754 and its implications for women's rights and health. Having personally experienced the pain of a miscarriage, the possibility that women might be criminalized for such tragic events is incredibly distressing. This bill proposes to monitor pregnancies from conception to conclusion, regardless of the outcome, potentially treating miscarriages as criminal incidents.

Ohio House Bill 754 is a dangerous infringement on privacy and women's autonomy. This legislation raises significant ethical and practical concerns. It not only threatens to invade personal medical privacy but also risks criminalizing women who suffer from miscarriages, an already emotionally and physically painful experience. Miscarriages occur in about 10-20% of known pregnancies, often due to reasons beyond a woman's control. These are deeply personal and traumatic experiences that should be met with compassion, not suspicion or legal action.

Furthermore, the bill could deter women from seeking necessary medical care during pregnancy. Fear of being surveilled or prosecuted might prevent them from discussing their health openly with healthcare providers, putting both the mother and fetus at risk. This is a substantial public health concern that could have long-lasting consequences on women's health care and rights in Ohio.

Moreover, the enforcement of such a bill would require an unjust and invasive level of surveillance into women's private lives. The policing of natural and often unpredictable biological occurrences contradicts the foundational values of freedom and privacy that our society cherishes.

This bill stands on shaky ground legally and ethically. Experts and legal analysts have warned of the constitutional challenges it could face, as it might infringe on established rights under Roe v. Wade and its interpretations. It ignores the voices and needs of Ohio's women, putting political agendas ahead of individual rights and well-being.

We need to stand together to protect the rights and dignity of all women in Ohio. I urge you to join me in opposing House Bill 754. Demand that our legislators reject this intrusive and unjust proposal. Sign this petition to ensure that our voices are heard and that women's rights and health are upheld. Let's work towards a future where women are supported, respected, and empowered, not criminalized and monitored. Please sign and share this petition to stop Ohio House Bill 754.
