Stop Ofcom and Keir Starmer from forcing us to give out our verification ID to media
The Issue
I am writing this petition because I am deeply concerned about the rising level of restrictions imposed by the UK government and its regulatory bodies, specifically Ofcom, under the leadership of Keir Starmer. It has become increasingly frustrating to witness the push for forced verification IDs for accessing social media, streaming services, and video games. This personal plea stems from my exhaustion with unnecessary regulations, especially when they're justified by claims of 'protecting young children.'
Let's speak frankly: these measures do little but create more barriers for ordinary users. Children who these regulations aim to protect can easily circumvent age verification ID checks, making these policies ineffective and burdensome. The focus needs to shift from imposing blanket measures that affect everyone to crafting intelligent strategies that address the actual risks without infringing on individual freedoms.
Equally troubling is the rampant integration of Artificial Intelligence on art platforms, social media, and customer service operations. AI, while innovative, has been misapplied in ways that diminish the human touch that is so vital in these spaces. Instead of making these platforms more efficient or secure, the misuse of AI often results in depersonalized interactions and uninspired creativity. We need to address these concerns with balanced solutions that preserve our digital autonomy.
Adding to the chaos is the proliferation of bots and scammers in both social media and video gaming spaces. These bad actors exploit the very systems meant to safeguard us, making our online experiences less secure and enjoyable. It's disheartening to see platforms flooded with fake accounts while genuine engagements are sidelined.
This will allow us to be able to contact real customer support and not just AI response as I've contacted a few companies like Microsoft or YouTube or even TikTok and although I get response from Microsoft or YouTube on Twitter/X it is annoying when it comes to contacting a support like TikTok where they use AI to respond or even Roblox support. Why I made this petition is because of AI which almost every company's customer support use but not just in customer support but many things like AI websites that people are using AI to make art that the people themselves didn't draw and turning cartoon characters or people into AI without consent especially not appropriate pictures involving women and young children and even fake video's which show AI in so many apps like YouTube, Instagram, Chinese websites such as Douyin and many more and also news that aren't even real, 2 other reasons is because 1 the age verification ID has taken away some freedom like Minecraft or Roblox where on Roblox you can't talk to anyone other than those in your age group which has a drastic change for YouTubers especially Minecraft family friendly YouTubers and also many kids can fake those ID verifications and it's genuinely not safe if hackers get into a company and all the ID's are leaked plus for the bots and scammers, I am fed up of constantly getting those messages especially on Twitter where every day there's a fake account pretending to be social media influencers especially female influencers but these accounts are fake/scammers and I constantly get those "Let's chat" messages, but also sometimes get replies from these so called "tech" accounts saying to contact them to get my PSN account unbanned.
Sign this petition if you believe in digital freedom and privacy. Let us urge Ofcom and political leaders to reconsider these invasive policies and work towards innovative, effective solutions that respect our rights as individuals. Together, we can make our voices heard and create a more balanced digital environment. Please lend your support by signing this petition.
