I have always been deeply moved by the beauty and diversity of marine life. However, it breaks my heart to see sea mammals, fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and other marine creatures suffer due to our negligence. They become entangled in or ingest plastic debris leading to suffocation, starvation, drowning or even death from poisoning. Our actions are not only threatening their existence but also affecting us as some of the fish we consume might contain microplastics.

Ocean pollution is a global issue that needs immediate attention. Garbage dumping, chemical waste disposal from industries, ocean mining and oil spills are major contributors to this crisis. According to a study published in Science Magazine (2015), 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans each year - that's equivalent to five grocery bags filled with plastic for every foot of coastline in the world.

This situation is alarming and demands urgent action from all stakeholders including governments worldwide. We need stricter laws against ocean pollution and more robust clean-up initiatives on both local and international levels.
