Stop Obscene Skyscraper Construction in Downtown Sarasota

Stop Obscene Skyscraper Construction in Downtown Sarasota
The Issue
Petition to Oppose Approval by the City of Sarasota of Administrative Site Plan Application No. 23-ASP-02, Proposed Obsidian Condominium, 1260-1274 North Palm Ave., Sarasota, Florida
The below hereby acknowledge their opposition to the above proposed skyscraper condominium building for some of the following reasons:
- Violates IV-506 Zoning Code Appendix D and the Sarasota Downtown Master Plan in the areas of height, lot coverage, setback, mass, scale, quality of life and compatibility.
- The massive 342-foot structure will be more than 100 feet taller than any other existing building in downtown Sarasota.
- It will be far out of proportion in design, height and comparability with neighboring buildings.
- It will require demolition of seven existing retail businesses, replace by only one, thus reducing retail space by 86%
- The tiny site, barely over1/4 acre, will present safety risks during construction.
- After completion, the massive structure could result in damage to existing neighboring buildings during tropical storms and/or hurricanes.
