Ladies & Gentlemen:

We the Members of Karachi Gymkhana are aghast to see a poster of an event “LIVE MUSIC AID CONCERT 2022” to be held at the club premises on 2nd October 2022.

First, please bear in mind that Karachi Gymkhana is not a charitable organization.

Second, no organization can hold any events/functions within the premises of the club, may it be in conjunction with the club.

Third, use and entry in the club premises is restricted to members only. The only caveat being allowing a specified number of guests and that too accompanying the members for special events and meals on specific days of the club.

Different sections of Rule: 10 and 23 substantiate the above.

With the above background, how can Arts Council of Pakistan and Asim Azhar have a concert within the premises of the club when entry is not restricted to members and there would be no limit and/or check and balance on the entry of non-members?

Please bear in mind that the General Body of the club had banned holding of such events to the extent that wedding functions organized by members cannot be held as it intrudes the privacy of members as in such functions/events non-members use/trespass the club.

Membership of a club is a privilege. Benefits of such a privilege cannot be extended to non-members. This privilege is blatantly being violated when tickets for this concert are being sold openly at the Arts Council of Pakistan.

Furthermore, there is no system whereby accounting of this function could be ascertained which in itself is a violation of the financial discipline of the club procedures.

If the members of the club as CLUB ENTITY wish to donate to the Flood Victims Account, a special fund can be created in the club where the members can contribute and the amount so collected could be given for this purpose on behalf of the members of Karachi Gymkhana.

But, holding such events is against the club rules. It is therefore requested to immediately withdraw out of this event in the interest the club and its members.
