Stop Noida Authority from Converting Natural Lake into Dump Yard

The Issue

I have recently shifted to one of the many housing projects on the Noida Expressway. Started as ambitious projects, they are grand spaces designed to provide the best of the amenities for human consumption. One of the concerns I had while shifting was the the very apparent overpowering of green by concrete, but made my peace as soon as I saw a natural lake right next to the apartments. However, soon after, I observed garbage mounds cropping up in the area along with a sign that allowed for the dumping of solid waste. It took less than a week for the  waste to build up such that it was hard to imagine that it was actually a biodiversity park certified by Noida Authority. This act has not only endangered the habitat of the species that live there, but will soon pose serious health problems to the residents that live around the area. Following is an excerpt from a TOI report on the incident-

"The two expansive natural lakes of Sector 91 Noida, flanked by sector 137 on one side which has eight apartment complexes in a row, and has another line up of apartments of Sector 93B were part of an ambitious biodiversity park announced by the Noida Authority. Plans of tree plantation and conservation were announced. But as of today mountains of putrid filth and toxic waste line the twin lakes. The surface water is swathed under a blanket of plastic packets and other garbage. Boards put up by Noida authority state, 'Yahan par malwa daliye' or dump your construction waste here.

The residents on Paramount Floraville, Exotica Fresco complain that the very natural setting of the area for which they bought apartments in the region is now set for destruction.  Once a happy hunting ground of nilgais and a variety of birds, you get to see cattle egrets feasting on the garbage.

With such a wave of chikungunya and dengue in the city, the health and wellbeing of the residents is in danger.

This water where everyone is dumping the waste is directly recharging our ground water. Now all residences in 137 or even 93 are dependent on ground water, so naturally we are on a cycle of toxicity."

The Noida Authority needs to find an alternative dumping ground and take action to stop it immediately. Please support this petition so we can report this to NGT and get the process expedited.
