Protect Our Communities: Stop Disproportionate Transmission Line Burden on Our Community

We, the residents, property owners, and supporters of Haydentown and surrounding communities in southwestern Pennsylvania, are calling for immediate action regarding the proposed MARL (MidAtlantic Resiliency Link) high-voltage transmission project.

Our community already lives with major power transmission infrastructure that has impacted our land, property values, and quality of life for years. The MARL proposal would introduce another massive corridor through our area, compounding damage to a small rural community that has already sacrificed more than most.

What makes this proposal even more concerning is that the electricity carried by these lines is not intended primarily for our local region. This means Haydentown residents would bear the permanent impacts while the primary benefits go elsewhere.

This raises serious concerns about fairness, property rights, and responsible infrastructure planning.

Our Concerns:

  • Additional loss of property value and land use rights
  • Environmental disruption and permanent landscape alteration
  • Increased infrastructure burden on an already impacted community
  • Potential use of eminent domain against property owners
  • Lack of clear local benefit compared to regional or private gain
  • Insufficient consideration of alternative routes

Rural communities should not be treated as expendable corridors for infrastructure that primarily benefit distant markets or future industrial demand.

Our Requests:

We call on local officials, state representatives, and regulatory agencies to:

  • Oppose routing the MARL transmission line through Haydentown and surrounding residential areas
  • Require a full evaluation of alternative routes with less community impact
  • Consider the cumulative infrastructure burden on our community
  • Protect property owners from unfair use of eminent domain
  • Ensure transparency regarding who benefits from this project

Our community deserves the same protection, respect, and consideration as any other.

Haydentown has already done its part. We should not be asked to sacrifice again for power that will not even serve us.
