Stop New High School Requirements in Nova Scotia

The Issue

I attend school in Nova Scotia along with thousands of other students, the new high school requirements will be making it difficult for students like me. The ban on cellphone use and extending classes to 75 minutes will negatively impact our learning experience. Cellphones are essential tools for communication and research, while shorter class periods help maintain student focus and engagement. Please sign this petition to urge the authorities to reconsider these changes for the benefit of all students. Though they have said students vouched for these new rules the large majority seem to disagree.

By banning phones and allowing school periods to extend for 75 minutes, schools are sending a mixed message. On one hand, they advocate for minimizing distractions and fostering focus, yet on the other hand, they impose longer class times, potentially creating student restlessness and the need for "bathroom breaks." It seems contradictory to restrict technology use while simultaneously increasing the duration of time students spend in potentially monotonous learning environments.
