Stop new developments off Bass Highway in Osceola County
The Issue
‼️ update: hearing has been canceled and we were not informed why open to gather information to keep everybody posted‼️
Hey neighbors, we need your help.
We are working to protect the wooded land off Bass Highway, across from North Shore, from being developed. This property is home to important wildlife and natural habitat, and proposed development could have serious impacts on both the environment and the daily lives of nearby residents.
We are asking residents to help collect and share photos of wildlife seen on or near this wooded lot, especially gopher tortoises, bald eagles, woodpeckers, and ospreys. These animals are an important part of our local ecosystem, and documenting their presence can help show why this land deserves protection.
There will be a public hearing on June 2, 2026 @6pm-7:30pm at Harmony High School regarding this property. Please attend if you can and voice your opinion. Community turnout matters, and your presence can help show county officials that residents care deeply about protecting this land.
We are also gathering signatures to urge the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners to deny new development approvals off Bass Highway. Development in this area could create major traffic delays, especially during morning commutes, and may lead to road closures, increased congestion, added strain on public services, and long-term disruption to residents’ daily lives.
Beyond traffic and infrastructure concerns, development would threaten the wildlife, wetlands, trees, and natural beauty that make this area special. Once land like this is cleared, the damage to habitat and community character cannot easily be undone.
We believe growth should be responsible, sustainable, and respectful of the people and wildlife already here. Please stand with your neighbors in protecting this land off Bass Highway.
Sign the petition, share photos of wildlife you have seen in the area, attend the June 2, 2026 @6pm-7:30pm hearing at Harmony High School, and help us protect the natural spaces that make our community such a special place to live.
