The New England Country Club (NECC Holdings LLC) has been relentlessly pushing to destroy the forests between Bellingham and Woonsocket for decades. Every several years, they return with another attempt to bulldoze nature and disrupt quiet, residential neighborhoods—all in the name of profit.
Their plan involves wiping out woodlands to build 5-story, high density senior living apartments, completely disregarding the environmental impact, overwhelming community opposition and increasing the population of Bellingham by up to 20%.
With only one entry and exit we speculate that this proposal will end up extending dead-end roads in peaceful neighborhoods, creating a direct connection between Woonsocket, Cumberland and Bellingham. This was addressed at the town hall and was stated to not be the case however we the community strongly believe otherwise. Please view the architectural plans here showing an extension of Bound Road-> https://www.bellinghamma.org/DocumentCenter/View/2944/02172025---Copper-Mill---Site-Plans
If approved, this would dramatically increase traffic in residential areas, turning quiet streets into busy thoroughfares.
NECC has a history of quietly pushing these plans forward in hopes of avoiding public resistance. Our community is deeply concerned, and we need help bringing this issue to light before it’s too late.
The decision to remove established green spaces not only disrupts local wildlife habitats but also compromises the privacy and quality of life for residents in existing neighborhoods. It is disheartening to witness such significant natural resources being sacrificed, especially when alternative solutions—such as the refurbishment of abandoned or underutilized areas—are available.
Revitalizing these areas could meet developmental needs without the negative impact on the environment and the community.
I respectfully urge the relevant authorities and developers to reconsider their current approach and explore more sustainable, community-friendly development options that protect our natural heritage.
