Points To Consider for your objections to Mynydd Maen Wind Farm proposal
Hi Everyone,
With The Objection Deadline Approaching for The ( RES 13 Turbine ) wind farm this Monday 19th May 2025, you may want to consider these points:-
The Developer Website was changed last minute. Alterations were made to the majority of the documents and new documents added. There is a new turbine layout that some people my not be familiar with. A new peat depth report which is still inaccurate. Changes to all the view point documents etc.
As most of you are aware the proposal is in what is described as a 'Development High Risk Area'. This is because of the volume of mines and tunnels around the mountain. There are some points to consider with the Haulage, Homes Supplied Claims, irreversible destruction, Peat, Wildlife etc. I have put together a video on some of these points and to show the volume of Peat in the proposed sites. If you want to have a look for yourself I have included this video link :- https://youtu.be/pHI0j7LLxac
So With This in mind, plus some other points to mention, I have prepared a template Email for you to copy and paste. (Or you may wish to create your own.)
( Remember to delete the last bit at the bottom and add your full name and address and contact details to make it valid ).
You can request for your name and address to be hidden from the PEDW website, or just your address if you want to see PEDW have actually added your objection to their casework website.
Remember this development is destructive and assists the other developments, (essentially one large development), to go ahead if passed. The objection deadline is this Monday 19th May 2025.
You don't have to live nearby the mountain to object. Anyone with a love for wildlife, Birds and countryside can join in. This development would devastate our mountain!
Send the objection email to:- PEDW.infrastructure@gov.wales

FORMAL OBJECTION TO MYNYDD MAEN WIND FARM ( RES )
Inspector Richard E Jenkins referencing DNS/3276725
Dear sir,
I would like to object to the proposed Wind Farm at Mynydd Maen by developer RES.
Haulage / Routes The area should not of been considered as 'pre-selected'. It is too remote and surrounded by busy housing estates. The volume of industrial vehicles and road alterations required, would overwhelm the local people and cause too much disruption and pose danger risks. I am not assured by any safety risk assessment data, as no one has ever tried to bring 39 Giant turbine blades, ( 12 more with Pennant Walters Trecelyn), up through the Pantside or Herbert terrace steep gradient roads before. The risk cannot be assessed from passed data.
Heavily Mined area The Coal Authority website refers to this mountain area as a 'high risk development area' because of the extensive tunnel networks. Their 'no objection' policy, to all these developments in the area, contradicts what's clearly stated on the website. A similar proposal was turned down around 20 years ago in the same area with mines being just one of the reasons why heavy industrial projects, such as this, shouldn't be sited on the mountain. This would put local residents at risk of land slide and cannot be guaranteed for safety.
Peat, Heather & Wildlife The mountain is covered in a vast area of deep peat, with peat bogs and marshy areas found at the wind turbine sites, Substation and proposed road networks. The need to preserve and protect Peat for it's Co2 storing properties and Biodiversity has never been greater. At around 10 years, for 10mm to form, a large majority of the mountain contains 0.5m or 500 years worth of peat.
With Acres of 'Bee Friendly' Heather at the majority of the proposed sites, there is a natural 'undisturbed' environment for wildlife, such as Birds of pray and ground nesting birds. Road networks, foundations & cable trenches would destroy these habitats and they cannot be replicated or replaced. This cannot be disturbed.
Developer Documents The developer has held important information back, until the very last minute, on their website. With turbine location changes, view information and detailed documents etc, being added near the public representations date of 14th April 2025. This did not give the public adequate time to assess the new information and process what had changed or stayed the same. Leading to confusion. This, at a time, when the public were already overwhelmed with other development objection stages for the same area.
The developer has not been genuine. The Peat Depth Maps have shown to be inaccurate and fabricated 'twice' and not reflective of the real peat depths of the mountain area and infrastructure locations. Some site location 'ground areas' show unexplained signs of tampering. These surface areas would appear 'stony', in photos to the unchecking public, when in reality they are not.
Homes Supplied Estimation Using the homes supplied estimation Claim ( Just a claim and hasn't been proven ) from Pennant Walters Trecelyn wind farm proposal. They Claim to 'meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 13,135 homes' from a 16.8MW ( 4 Turbine Wind farm ), they refer to as '20MW'. So Each 4.2MW wind turbine would supply:-
16.8MW = 13,135 Homes so 13,135 divided by 4 = 3283.75 Homes ( claim ) per Turbine.
The RES development is a 54.6MW ( 13 Turbine Wind Farm ), they refer to as '55MW'. RES claim 'Mynydd Maen would be capable of providing clean, low cost renewable electricity for around 55,000 homes'
Again each turbine is 4.2MW. So Each turbine can supply 3283.75 Homes ( according to Pennant Walters ) So 3283.75 x 13 Turbines = 42,688.75 homes estimation not 55,000 Homes. Making a large difference between the developer claims.
Other factors like the percentage of the other energy making sources ( such as gas powered power stations ) that contribute towards the same homes in that supply estimation need to be shown. Which would reduce the homes supplied, solely by wind, to a far lower figure. There is no information for the RES wind Turbines annual Consumption ( consuming electric out of the electric grid, when they are in service mode ,no wind days ? )
The RES homes estimation is not ( straight forward, clear and easy to understand ) for the general public to see how they have arrived at the 'Claim'.
For the above Reasons The Proposed RES Wind Farm Development should not have be allowed to make it this far in the PEDW process and should be rejected now with no further extensions.
Thank you
sincerely
