The Issue

Murphy High School has become an increasingly unsafe environment to host basketball games, primarily due to insufficient security measures. As a concerned individual closely involved with the school, I've noticed significant issues that need immediate attention.

One of the major problems is the lack of security in the parking lot area. At the end of the parking lot, there is no monitoring, leaving it vulnerable to potentially dangerous situations. This oversight creates a sense of insecurity for everyone who parks there, including students, staff, and visitors.

Furthermore, the gymnasium itself is too small to accommodate the large crowds that attend these games. This overcrowding not only makes it difficult for spectators to enjoy the game comfortably, but it also leads to tensions boiling over into physical confrontations outside the gym. These fights jeopardize the safety of everyone involved, including students, parents, and community members.

Statistics show that schools with inadequate security measures are more prone to incidents of violence, and Murphy High School's current setup falls into this category. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, sufficient crowd control and security are crucial in reducing incidents at school events.

By stopping Murphy High from hosting basketball games, we are prioritizing the safety of all attendees. An interim solution could be hosting these games at larger venues with better security measures until appropriate changes are made at the school. This ensures both safety and enjoyment for the community.

Please join me in urging the school administration and the local education board to take action and reconsider the location of these events for the sake of everyone's safety. Sign this petition to make a change and protect our students and community members at Murphy High School.
