Stop proposed mobile mast construction by South Norwood Country Park

Stop proposed mobile mast construction by South Norwood Country Park

The Issue

Local residents, schoolchildren and park visitors are all due to be impacted by an imposing mobile phone mast planned right by the entrance to South Norwood Country Park.

O2 are seeking planning permission from Croydon Council to install a 20 metre tall 5G mast  at the Westgate Road entrance to the South Norwood Country Park.

Act now to stop this going ahead and stop the council rushing this through on Friday 3rd March.

Of the 11 previous applications for permits in Croydon, six were denied on the grounds of visual appearance.

You can make your own objection via the Croydon Council website. In order to be heard by the case officer, the objection must be linked to material planning considerations and we are objecting on the grounds that:

  • the design is not in keeping with the local area, e.g. out of character with the surroundings
  • the mast is obtrusive by design e.g. loss of light, overshadowing.

The proposed site is:

  • on one of the oldest streets in the area
  • at the entrance to local landmark, South Norwood Country Park, an area of nature conservation
  • is a widely used thoroughfare close to children's play areas.

There is already a nearby mast at Arena, efforts should be made to utilise this and not overcrowd our green spaces with poorly considered masts.

How to submit your objection to Croydon Council:

  • Go to cutt.ly/sncpmastobject
  • Type ref number 23/00391/PA8 into search bar
  • Click 'Make a comment' in menu
  • Complete the 2 minute form (deadline Friday 3rd March 2023).

Spread the word. Tell your neighbours and share this information on your social media platforms and WhatsApp.

If you have any further suggestions or queries please contact Sarah on 07966477306.

We appreciate you all have busy lives and times are hard

We thank you for supporting the cause in anyway you can
