Stop mislabeling NZ car enthusiasts as 'boyracers'
The issue
People who have ruined the car scene for genuine enthusiasts are often thrill-seeking criminals far removed from true car lovers. Real car enthusiasts spend not just money, but also time and effort on their vehicles. Following a strict set of rules for vehicle certification to even allow the vehicle on public roads to make sure they are safe. These cars are more than just piles of metal they are our passion, our life. We've invested significantly and complied with stringent certification processes to legally drive our modified cars on the road.
Yet, despite jumping through numerous hoops, we face an unfair stereotype of being 'boyracers'—a label that suggests associations with reckless behavior like attending illegal takeovers and ramming police cars. This sweeping stereotype deeply hurts, as it tarnishes the image of real car enthusiasts who simply wish to enjoy their cars responsibly.
New legislative measures are making it increasingly difficult to partake in a beloved segment of New Zealand's culture. Laws threatening vehicle confiscation and crushing for supposed convoy intimidation or driver identification failures instill fear among genuine car lovers. Because When cruising with a big group of random cool cars from around the country side how are we supposed to know who's in all of the cars ahead. They are saying if we fail to identify said driver, We will be unfairly penalized instead of those who do not respect road rules.
We want to attend car shows, enjoy weekend cruises with friends, and cherish our vehicles without the threat of severe legal repercussions. Our community comprises responsible individuals whose interests are being overshadowed by a few bad actors. We urge the New Zealand government to reconsider the way it categorizes and penalizes car enthusiasts under new regulations.
Support our cause to protect the rights of genuine car lovers and preserve a significant part of New Zealand's culture. Your signature can help us pursue fair treatment and advocacy for responsible car enthusiasts. Please sign this petition to make a difference.
