The issue

Miami State High School is planning to introduce a mandate requiring students to wear formal uniform on Mondays and Fridays every week, including the introduction of leather laced shoes to be worn during the day. Many can see this as a bad decisions, with the uniforms being uncomfortable as they already are, as well as becoming more strict on shoe types.

The uncomfortable uniforms are fine to be worn on the odd excursion or for school photos, however having to wear the uniforms 40% of the schooling year creates problems, along with the higher price point forcing many to purchase the uniforms.

The issue of the laced, leather shoes means many students will be forced to purchase new shoes too. Along with the lower comfort levels of such shoes, they also limit the amount of physical activity due to design, often not being as comfortable or easy to run or play sports in during break times.

Along with the uniforms and shoes, attendance would also take a hit particularly on Mondays and Fridays due to these new mandates. If a student does not have a formal already, or does not have a clean formal uniform, this will create a reason for a student to skip school to avoid being the "odd one out" due to differing uniforms. Combining this with the incentive to not be given a uniform violation due to the incorrect uniform, this would impact the learning of many students.
