Stop Menai Bridge Road Closures
The Issue

Stop the plan to close Druid Road, Mount Street and Hill Street, Menai Bridge, and ask the Isle of Anglesey County Council to look at other options.
English
We, the undersigned, call upon Isle of Anglesey County Council to immediately pause the proposed Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) closures on Druid Road, Mount Street, and Hill Street, Menai Bridge, and to fully reassess alternative surface water drainage routes (including Options 3, 4, and 5) for the Aethwy Extra Care scheme at Tyddyn Mostyn. This petition highlights critical flaws in the Council's current proposal when compared to viable alternative solutions:
Disadvantages of the Current Gravity Drainage Proposal
- Unprecedented Disruption: Requires at least 30 weeks of continuous road closures, effectively cutting off access to over 140 homes and 300+ residents, indirectly affecting many more and negatively impacting businesses in Menai Bridge.
- Health & Safety Risks: Severe access restrictions threaten Hyland Residential Home, where vulnerable residents depend on uninterrupted access for staff, healthcare workers, visitors, and emergency services.
- Severe Quality of Life Impact: Prolonged construction will subject nearby homes to months of heavy noise and severe vibration, risking property damage and affecting resident well-being.
- Highest Financial & Technical Cost: It represents the most expensive, disruptive, and technologically complex route option available.
- Missed Sustainability Goals: The Council rejected rainwater harvesting on cost grounds, ignoring Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) best-practice guidance to reduce surface water at the source.
Benefits of Alternative Options (e.g., A Pumped Surface Water System and others)
- Dramatically Lower Cost: A pumped system could cost less than a quarter of the Council's current proposal.
- Reinvestment in Sustainability: Savings could directly fund green initiatives, including source-control rainwater harvesting previously rejected due to budget constraints.
- Reduced Local Impact: Avoids months of street-level disruption, safeguarding community access and protecting emergency routes to vulnerable care facilities.
We therefore urge the Council to pause the proposed closures, review all lower-impact alternative drainage routes, hold meaningful community consultation, and select a solution that protects the Menai Bridge community.

Rydym ni, y rhai sydd wedi llofnodi isod, yn galw ar Gyngor Sir Ynys Môn i atal ar unwaith y cau ffyrdd arfaethedig o dan Orchymyn Rheoleiddio Traffig (TRO) ar Druid Road, Mount Street, a Hill Street, Porthaethwy, ac i ail-asesu'n llawn lwybrau draenio dŵr wyneb amgen (gan gynnwys Opsiynau 3, 4, a 5) ar gyfer cynllun Gofal Ychwanegol Aethwy yn Tyddyn Mostyn. Mae'r ddeiseb hon yn tynnu sylw at ddiffygion hollbwysig yng nghynnig presennol y Cyngor o'i gymharu ag atebion amgen ymarferol:
Anfanteision y Cynnig Draenio Disgyrchiant
- Presennol Aflonyddwch digynsail: Mae angen cau ffyrdd yn barhaus am o leiaf 30 wythnos, gan dorri mynediad i dros 140 o gartrefi a mwy na 300 o drigolion i bob pwrpas.
- Risgiau Iechyd a Diogelwch: Mae cyfyngiadau mynediad difrifol yn bygwth Cartref Preswyl Hyland, lle mae trigolion bregus yn dibynnu ar fynediad di-dor i staff, gweithwyr gofal iechyd, ymwelwyr, a gwasanaethau brys.
- Effaith ddifrifol ar ansawdd bywyd: Bydd y gwaith adeiladu hirfaith yn golygu y bydd cartrefi cyfagos yn dioddef misoedd o sŵn uchel a dirgryniad cryf, gan beryglu difrod i eiddo ac effeithio ar les trigolion.
- Y gost ariannol a thechnegol uchaf: Dyma'r opsiwn llwybr drutaf, mwyaf aflonyddgar a mwyaf cymhleth yn dechnolegol sydd ar gael.
- Methu cyrraedd nodau cynaliadwyedd: Gwrthododd y Cyngor y syniad o gasglu dŵr glaw ar sail costau, gan anwybyddu canllawiau arfer gorau Systemau Draenio Cynaliadwy (SuDS) i leihau dŵr wyneb wrth y ffynhonnell.
Manteision opsiynau amgen (e.e., System Dŵr Wyneb gyda Phwmp ac eraill)
- Cost llawer is: Gallai system gyda phwmp gostio llai na chwarter cynnig presennol y Cyngor.
- Ail-fuddsoddi mewn cynaliadwyedd: Gallai'r arbedion ariannu mentrau gwyrdd yn uniongyrchol, gan gynnwys casglu dŵr glaw wrth y ffynhonnell, rhywbeth a wrthodwyd yn flaenorol oherwydd cyfyngiadau cyllidebol.
- Llai o effaith leol: Yn osgoi misoedd o aflonyddwch ar lefel y stryd, gan ddiogelu mynediad i'r gymuned a diogelu llwybrau brys i gyfleusterau gofal ar gyfer pobl fregus.
Felly, rydym yn annog y Cyngor i atal y cau arfaethedig, adolygu pob llwybr draenio amgen sy'n cael llai o effaith, cynnal ymgynghoriad ystyrlon â'r gymuned, a dewis datrysiad sy'n diogelu cymuned Porthaethwy.
