The issue

As a resident or frequent visitor to the stunning coastal town of Merimbula, you've likely experienced the natural beauty and tranquility of Merimbula Lake. However, something disheartening has been occurring that tarnishes this pristine environment. On numerous occasions, I've personally witnessed an abundance of waste – predominantly from McDonald's – accumulating in the waters and along the shores of Merimbula Lake. This sight not only disturbs the natural landscape but also harms the local wildlife that depends on this ecosystem.

McDonald's in Merimbula plays an undeniable role in this growing issue. Their packaging, often seen floating in the water or strewn across the beach, testifies to a lack of sustainable practices that we urgently need to address. In fact, according to the World Economic Forum, an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans every year, and much of it originates from such disposable packaging.

Yet, there is hope—by urging McDonald's Merimbula to adopt more sustainable and eco-friendly packaging, we can significantly reduce this pollution. Educational initiatives for both staff and customers about proper waste disposal, along with the company's investment in green packaging innovations, can lead to substantial environmental improvements. Other branches in different parts of the world have successfully implemented such changes; it's high time Merimbula follows suit.

Let's come together to demand that McDonald's takes responsibility and positions itself as a leader in environmental stewardship. By investing in sustainable packaging options and ramping up their waste management practices, McDonald's can make a massive difference in preserving Merimbula Lake for generations to come.

Join me in signing this petition to encourage McDonald's Merimbula to take definitive, environmentally-friendly actions now for a cleaner, greener Merimbula Lake. Your signature can make a powerful statement that speaks volumes about our collective commitment to protecting our environment.
