The Issue

UPDATE: New information has come in and the mass deletion actually came from mass reports from attackers on maker teams. But Nintendo still accepted these reports, so this petition will remain up, the new goal is now to make Nintendo aware of these level deletions.

Nintendo is mass deleting thousands of SMM2 levels and tens of thousands more are at risk of being deleted, just because they had hashtags in the level name or description, which Nintendo thinks is "advertising".

The hashtags are not meant to be "advertising", they are meant to brand levels under a specific genre of content on the platform that could not be labeled via the game's built-in tag system.

Not only that but Super Mario Maker 2 released in 2019. And Nintendo has allowed these levels to have hashtags in their names or descriptions for a long time. But now, in 2026, long after the game has stopped recieving major updates, Nintendo suddenly mass deletes these innocent levels without warning. Some creators have been banned from the platform altogether, too.

Over 1000 levels, that take a while to make and finish, have already been deleted due to this sudden decision by Nintendo, and over 100,000 levels could very well be next! Please sign this petition to make Nintendo rethink this sudden deletion!
