Stop mandatory digital ID in Australia

The issue

Australians deserve the freedom to choose how they identify themselves. The government's move toward a national digital identification system has sparked widespread concern about privacy, data misuse, and surveillance.

We are not opposed to technology, but we believe digital ID must remain optional. Many citizens prefer to use physical identification such as driver’s licences, Medicare cards, and passports—and that right must be protected by law.

Digital identification may offer conveniences, but it also opens the door to potential risks of identity theft, data breaches, and an increase in unwanted surveillance. By making digital IDs mandatory, we risk enforcing a system that could significantly impinge on individual privacy rights and limit personal freedom.

We, the undersigned, call on the Australian Government to:

1. Legislate that physical IDs remain permanently valid and equal to digital identification for all purposes.

2. Ban discrimination against people who choose not to use digital ID.

3. Protect privacy and data security by ensuring participation in any digital ID system remains voluntary.

Australians need assurance that their choice matters, and their freedoms are respected. Digital ID should be an option—not an obligation. Sign this petition to protect Australians' freedom of choice, privacy, and independence.
