Stop Male Officers From Being Allowed To Frisk Women

Stop Male Officers From Being Allowed To Frisk Women
The Issue
On April 5th at 2:00 am my husband called and woke me up to ask me to come outside because the police (GRPD) were out there and he was afraid. So I woke up and by the time I had made it outside they were beating my husband and he was screaming for help. I was asking them to get off of my husband because it was 5 or 6 officers on top of him and they asked me to back up on the sidewalk and I did. When I tried to ask my husband if he was ok the GRPD arrested me for disturbing the peace. Now when I rushed outside I didn't have time to get dressed so I didn't have a bra on or any underwear, just my night gown(moo moo) and I threw some jogging pants on. I asked the male officer if a female officer could search me because I was uncomfortable about being underdressed and not only that but I had some bad experiences when I was a child and I preferred a female to search me. He said that he was trained to do the same things as the female officers and I said it's my right to have a female search me but he ignores me and searches me anyway. He ran his hands under my breasts and because I have big breasts he's lifting them up being extra, basically fondling them. Then he ran his hands all over me when he lifted my stomach he ran his hands over the top of my vagina and I just stopped talking and went stiff. I felt so violated. And there was a female officer there the whole time about five feet away pulling my husbands hair out. I feel like he wanted to show me how much control he had over me while my husband was 5 feet away being beaten and unable to help me. I filed a complaint with internal affairs at the GRPD but they said it's not their policy that a male officer can't frisk a female. Even if there's a female officer there the male officer can frisk women. I believe if they did this to me they've been doing it and will continue to do it to other women. We need to act now because the effects of being sexually assaulted by someone sworn to protect you are devastating and I would not want what I'm feeling to be felt by anyone. If we could get this policy changed countless women in Grand Rapids would be safer from the GRPD's insensitive practices.
