Stop making women pay for NHS failure
The Issue
For years, I have suffered from endometriosis, adenomyosis, and pelvic congestion syndrome. Despite my pain, and obvious symptoms with a previous diagnosis my conditions were dismissed for what felt like an eternity, often dismissed as Urology, Rheumatology, IBS, stress, or perceived as being "in my head and depressed." Meanwhile, I was often collapsing and anaemic while my organs were mysteriously and painfully fusing together.
I was put on Prostap injections, a drastic measure to chemically force my body into menopause. Despite the adverse side effects, I stopped the Prostap, underwent a second laparoscopic surgery, and am now back onto the contraceptive pill. Yet, I am still bleeding, Internal examinations and tests have become the norm in my everyday life, a far cry from normalcy.
There is no cure -Surgery didn’t fix it. Chemical menopause didn’t fix it. The pill isn’t fixing it.
This is not just my story. Thousands of women across the UK are forced to navigate a healthcare system that regularly fails to promptly recognise and treat gynaecological issues. When it finally does, the solutions are often inadequate, leaving us to suffer physically, emotionally, and financially. Misdiagnosis’s not only affect our health, but strip us of our dignity and quality of life.
The National Health Service (NHS) should provide immediate and effective healthcare solutions for women enduring similar conditions.
This includes :
1. Free sanitary products on NHS prescription for diagnosed endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCS, or abnormal uterine bleeding. If it’s a symptom of disease, it’s healthcare.
2. Emergency funding for research into cures and treatments that actually work. Stop cycling us through hormones that fail.
3. End the gaslighting, passing the book and Enforce NICE guidelines. Mandatory GP training. No woman should bleed for a decade before being believed.
By acknowledging and addressing these gynaecological health issues, the NHS can take significant steps to improve care and support for countless women, allowing us to lead healthier, more fulfilled lives.
It's time for the NHS to take responsibility and implement comprehensive strategies to ensure that other women do not suffer as I have. Let's make change happen now.
Please sign this petition if you believe women shouldn’t go bankrupt buying pads while every NHS “solution” fails and help end the unnecessary suffering of so many women.
