Stop making jokes about autistic people

The issue

Living with autism is hard enough without the added burden of insensitive or hurtful jokes. For many autistic individuals, hearing people make jokes or belittle their experiences is not only hurtful but also perpetuates misconceptions about autism.

I have witnessed firsthand how these jokes can deeply affect autistic individuals, including myself. When someone makes a joke at the expense of autistic people, it invalidates their experiences and contributes to a culture that doesn't fully understand or accept autism. Such remarks are not just jokes; they can have real psychological impacts, increasing feelings of alienation and misunderstanding.

People with autism cannot control if they are autistic or not. Most people who make these jokes dont even know what autism is!

Showing people what autism is is very important. We can start by asking those who make these jokes and comments to consider the impact of their words. We need to promote understanding and empathy, not ridicule.

Please sign this petition to help raise awareness about the impacts of joking about autism and to encourage a more compassionate dialogue around the subject. Together, we can make a difference.
