Stop major reconstruction projects at Gibson Park

Stop major reconstruction projects at Gibson Park
The Issue
Gibson Park in Revere, MA, is more than just a gathering of green spaces and sports facilities. For many of us, it's a sanctuary—a place where the community comes together, where children engage in sports like tennis, basketball, and baseball, and where we connect with nature in its most serene form. For me and my dogs, it's a vital part of our daily lives. My dogs and I walk here multiple times a day. Given my dog's anxiety, it's one of the few places where we can comfortably visit at night due to the safety provided by lights, regular police patrols, and the presence of cameras.
However, the peace and sanctuary Gibson Park offers are under immense threat from major reconstruction projects, specifically the MassDEP 061-0842 plan. These proposed projects pose egregious harm to multiple ecosystems that flourish within and around the park. The range of wildlife that calls this park home is vast, including fish, crustaceans, and diverse species of animals and birds. Unique plant species also thrive here, contributing to the region's biological diversity and ecological balance. These projects could irreversibly damage these ecosystems, putting at risk not only the wildlife but also the environmental heritage of the area.
In addition to environmental concerns, this park is a cherished community hub. Children come here to play sports, families picnic, and people gather for community events, making it an indispensable part of Revere's identity. Losing this beloved park—or seeing it drastically altered—would harm community spirits and destroy the very essence of what makes Revere a great place to live.
We need to take action immediately to halt these projects, preserving Gibson Park for future generations and maintaining the delicate balance of ecosystems that thrive there. By halting MassDEP 061-0842 and other major reconstruction plans, we protect not just a park, but a vital part of our lives and community.
Join me in urging local authorities to prioritize ecological preservation and community interests over development projects that may offer temporary gains at the cost of permanent losses. Sign this petition to stop the major reconstruction projects at Gibson Park now!
