Archie's owner, Roberta, "had dreams of creating a place that brought neighbors together, all ages, nurturing and independent... together with family and friends we built out the storefront from scratch: plumbing, electric, counters, floors, walls, every piece of it!" Archie's became a neighborhood institution, thanks to the tireless effort that Roberta put into it, and kept the community together through the pandemic with their take-away meals. Nowadays, it is a foothold of "art, music, dance, film, comedy, and camaraderie" in the shadow of Loyola University Chicago's ever-growing shadow. The community needs Archie's and Loyola has plans to bulldoze it. Many people have lived in this building for 20+ years, and would not know where to go.
