Stop Locking Out Our Youth
The Issue
Open the Fields for Our Kids
For the last two years, our kids have been playing soccer at the Snelson and Bradwell fields. The Snelson games were led by a local coach, while the Bradwell practices/games were more pickup style, but I saw adults out there every time I dropped my kids off as well. Both schools have now said no more. For several years, James Brown has locked their fields to free play - that is a park we pay for with our taxes. The kids DESERVE a safe, dedicated place to play pickups games, or simply practice their skills without having to be forced onto the side of the highway, which is unsafe not only for them, but for drivers as well.
Children in our community deserve safe places to play, practice sports, stay active, and build friendships.
Right now, many local sports fields in Liberty County/Hinesville remain locked or inaccessible outside of organized recreation programs. Families are left with very few safe, open spaces where kids can simply throw a football, kick a soccer ball, practice softball, or stay active outdoors.
We are asking local leaders and parks officials to:
- Open recreation fields during designated non-program hours
- OR allowing reservations to use the field - for free
- Create scheduled community play times
- Increase public access for families and youth
- Work with the community to develop safe and reasonable solutions
This is about more than sports. It’s about:
- Keeping kids active and healthy
- Giving teens positive activities
- Building stronger community connections
- Supporting local families
- Our children should not have to search for somewhere safe to play.
We respectfully ask Liberty County Recreation Department and local leaders to work with the community to create more field access for local families.
Please sign and share to support our kids.
