Stop Limmo Peninsula N5.SA4 Becoming Another Development

The Issue

There are already so many in-progress development sites in Canning Town that the area is crying out for social spaces, community spaces and green spaces. NOT ANOTHER high rise development, destroying the skyline, taking away sunlight and creating a sound trap between for the TfL lines in which it would sit beside.

There has already been a noise issue raised by residents in the area surrounding Canning Town station regarding the noise generated by the TfL lines (Jubilee and DLR). The Limmo Peninsula land was previously owned and used by TfL. They have a duty to ensure they do not compound this noise issue, by selling the plot to a developer to build high rises upon and thus amplify the noise.

With the arrival of many more residents now in Canning Town; a much larger population footprint has already been created. Facilities such as banks, educational, health and social are required to cater for the emergence of these residents. The borough also has an obligation to offset carbon footprints created these concrete dwellings and provide green spaces, which would provide beneficial social and environmental impacts.

The plot (N5.SA4) is the perfect space to become an interconnected social hub between all the current high rise developments (Brunel Street Works, City Island, Caxton Works and others).

By signing this petition you reject the plans in making this area just another residential high rise development. You reject that buildings should be built on this plot which scale 7+ storeys and you agree that this space should be used for other key components that Canning Town is lacking in.

Such as:

  • Green spaces to assist in carbon offsets
  • Recreational spaces to bring communities together
  • Theatre, arts and entertainment spaces that would attract more people and add value to the area
  • Key Commercial units that are currently missing in the area (such as banks), restaurant chains (Nando's etc) and pharmacies (such as Boots etc)
  • Vital NHS health and community facilities (such as a doctor surgery and/or dentist).

We don't want Canning Town to become just a high rise jungle, we want Canning Town to have a soul and spaces which make it worth visiting, with spaces that residents feel proud to invite their friends to come and visit with them - which currently do not exist.
