Let’s get this out of the way quickly, this has nothing to do with being a woman or changing the sport. This has to do with someone who is absolutely terrible at their job and hurting the viewership of the game. Not everyone can do play by play announcing. I know I certainly couldn’t. It’s time for ESPN to admit that Leah Hextall can not and should not do play by play for any more NHL games. Please allow others (women, men, non-binary, and/or however they identify) to have the opportunity she has. There are multiple people out there who are truly great play by play announcers, with big dreams of doing it, having to also listen to her just be absolutely dreadful at the job they love for the sport we love.
