Stop LAUSD from enforcing impractical school rules

Stop LAUSD from enforcing impractical school rules
The Issue
As a student within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), I find myself constantly bogged down by unfair and impractical rules that disrupt learning and daily activities. These rules do not add value to our educational experience; instead, they create unnecessary barriers and frustrations for students like me.
One such rule that stands out in its impracticality is the restriction against using the bathrooms during the first and last 10 minutes of each class period. This rule seems arbitrary, as our biological needs do not adhere to a strict schedule. Such limitations on basic necessities can lead to discomfort and distraction, impeding students' ability to focus and thrive academically.
Additionally, prohibitions against using school emails or signing documents not only feel like an infringement on student rights but also cultivate an environment of distrust. These rules prevent us from using essential communication tools and engaging in civic activities that are crucial for our development as responsible citizens.
The purpose of school regulations should be to enhance the educational environment, not stifle it with unproductive rules. There are countless other areas where the district could focus its efforts, such as improving school facilities, increasing access to mental health resources, and ensuring every student has access to updated technology and learning materials.
I urge LAUSD to reconsider these restrictive policies and listen to the voices of the students who are most affected. By focusing on rules that genuinely benefit students and educational outcomes, the district can foster a more supportive and productive environment for all students.
Sign this petition to call on LAUSD to evaluate and revise its school policies to better serve the student body and align with their needs.
