Stop Landlord Neglect in Westwood Chateau University Apartments at UCLA

The Issue

Since the beginning of the school year in Sep 2022, the UCLA-owned apartment building Westwood Chateau, has ceaselessly presented issues that diminish the tenants’ quality of life.  The students, many of whom pay very high amounts for these shared spaces, face constant plumbing issues, have discovered mold in their walls (which directly affects health & well-being) , and most recently, a student even experienced a life-threatening elevator malfunction in which the elevator dropped 2 floors.  Thankfully, he was unharmed, but this event could have easily resulted in death or injury. This is completely unacceptable and conveys a pattern of Landlord Neglect on behalf of UCLA.  The tenants of Westwood Chateau deserve an apartment building that is safe, clean, and paid attention to.  This issue has come to light before, and even the Daily Bruin published an article about the building’s failures, yet still no action has been taken by the university to indicate a departure from the state of Landlord Neglect we are currently in.

This petition is to urge UCLA to address these building issues swiftly, as is their duty.  If things don’t change, serious injury or death could occur to the occupants of Westwood Chateau, especially with a frequently malfunctioning elevator.

We must take immediate action by signing this petition, because it seems if we wait for them, we’ll have to wait too long.  UCLA needs to to fix the issues that affect the Westwood Chateau Community daily.
