Stop Killing Us San Bernardino Animal Shelter~In Memory Of Igor
The Issue
In October of 2024, Igor, a defenseless puppy full of life and promise, was euthanized at the San Bernardino Animal Shelter. His life was unjustly cut short, sending waves of sorrow and anger through the hearts of those who knew him and beyond. The memory of Igor, though painful, underscores a troubling reality – the continual euthanasia of innocent animals like him.
From October of 2024...Igor is dead.
I just saw his post this morning.
Igor was gorgeous. Today he was packed into a plastic bag and will be dumped with all the other dogs that mean nothing.
I’m sure his owner gave the standard line we have heard over and over and over again.
I’m so heartbroken but I have to give my dog up after he has spent his entire life only knowing me as his family. I love him so much but can anyone take him?
When are the murders going to stop?
When is anyone going to care?
Our government has created another fraudulent scam and it’s called animal welfare.
Multimillion dollar buildings, and thousands of employees when simply mandatory spays and neuters with the cost covered by taxpayers would be money much better spent.
I didn’t sign up for this and am not ok with innocent dogs being killed so irresponsibly.
The San Bernardino Animal Shelter's high euthanasia rates harm animals, families, and communities. Approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized annually in the US, according to the ASPCA, and stories like Igor's highlight the personal impact. To reduce this, we must advocate for no-kill policies, adoption increases, spay/neuter programs, and more funding for animal welfare. Other cities have successfully implemented these changes, resulting in lower euthanasia rates.
The San Bernardino Animal Shelter has a history of high euthanasia rates, a practice that not only ends lives but also shatters families and communities who hope for a better future for these animals. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized annually in the United States. This is a heart-wrenching statistic made more personal and immediate with each story like Igor’s.
We must advocate for change. Implementing no-kill policies, increasing adoption efforts, providing resources for spaying and neutering, and allocating more funding for animal welfare can drastically reduce the need for euthanasia. Other cities have successfully adopted these measures, resulting in significant decreases in euthanasia rates.
San Bernardino must be another success story in this ongoing fight for animal rights. The time for change is now, for Igor and countless others whose voices have been silenced, for families who lose their beloved companions, and for a future where euthanasia is no longer a commonplace solution.
Your signature is a powerful tool for change. Help end the unnecessary euthanization of animals at the San Bernardino Animal Shelter by signing this petition. Join us in urging the shelter and local authorities to implement humane practices, invest in necessary resources, and stand against this tragic loss of life. Together, we can make a difference.
