In January 2009, the Grand Haven City Council members ordered sharpshooters to kill baited deer in our cemetery, desecrating its sacred grounds. For over a year a local resident destroyed the sanctity further by shooting/poaching wildlife from his balcony into our cemetery. This must stop, those with loved ones buried at Lake Forest Cemetery are petitioning to have respect, reverence and sanctity restored to this beautiful resting place.

In January 2009, the Grand Haven City Council members used tax payer dollars to hire sharpshooters to desecrate our cemetery’s sacred grounds. Endangering residents who were in the cemetery and/or live on its periphery, they shot and killed baited deer. For over a year, a local resident destroyed the sanctity further by shooting/poaching wildlife from his balcony into our cemetery. This must stop, those with loved ones buried at Lake Forest Cemetery are petitioning to have respect, reverence and sanctity restored to this beautiful resting place.

Lake Forest is a lovely cemetery in the City of Grand Haven. It is a quiet beautiful place, a reverent area where our loved ones, parents, children, siblings, dear friends and brave veterans are buried and resting in peace.

The City Council voted recently to have another deer cull in the city limits as early as September 1, 2009.

I know of no other city that allows any killing in their cemetery. To have such violence and blood shed on the graves of our loved ones is tragic to say the least.

The rules of the cemetery as written state that no person may disturb the birds or other animal life within the cemetery if not authorized by the city manager, public works director or cemetery board. We urge you to never again authorize killing on the sacred grounds on which our loved ones are buried.

Let's keep our cemetery the beautiful and sacred place that it was intended to be.
