Stop Joyce From Implementing the new 2nd device rule to ALL semesters with heavy workloads
Stop Joyce From Implementing the new 2nd device rule to ALL semesters with heavy workloads
The Issue
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the recent implementation of the second-device requirement during exams, as well as ongoing issues with organization and exam logistics.
When enrolling in this program, flexibility was emphasized as a major benefit. However, the current exam process has created the opposite experience. Requiring a second device and scheduled exam times has made it difficult to balance school with work and personal responsibilities. Many of us now have to request time off work just to take exams, which is not always feasible and adds unnecessary stress.
Additionally, the process of entering exams has become extremely time-consuming and frustrating. It can take up to an hour just to get fully set up and begin testing. This not only wastes valuable time but also negatively impacts performance—especially for students who experience test anxiety. By the time we are able to start, many of us feel overwhelmed and are not in the right mindset to perform our best, which defeats the purpose of fairly assessing our knowledge.
There are also significant concerns regarding organization. Zoom links are frequently incorrect or not provided in a timely manner. During makeup exams, I have personally experienced being placed in a room with only the instructor, without proper proctoring or structure, which creates a rushed and uncomfortable environment. At the same time, other exam sessions are often disruptive, with students unmuting themselves and causing distractions that interfere with focus.
The second-device requirement itself is also distracting. Having to constantly monitor another screen takes attention away from the exam and increases stress, rather than supporting academic integrity in a practical way.
Overall, these issues are creating an environment that feels disorganized, stressful, and inconsistent with the flexibility that was originally promised. I respectfully ask that the administration reevaluate the current exam procedures and consider adjustments that better support students’ time, focus, and success.
