Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach, is back in court asking for a new trial, more than a decade after a jury convicted him on 45 counts of sexually abusing boys. Eight young men sat through that 2012 trial and told a courtroom what happened to them as children. Now Sandusky's lawyers are preparing to take the case to federal court after failing multiple times in Pennsylvania's own courts.

His lawyers recently withdrew a plan to use one accuser's disputed recantation, choosing instead to pursue a broader push for a new trial. Pennsylvania Attorney General David Sunday called Sandusky a "convicted child predator" who is trying "to avoid accountability and escape punishment for years of abuse he perpetrated."

Every new appeal forces survivors to relive their testimony and wonder whether the justice they already won could be undone. Sandusky was convicted after a full trial, with survivors' testimony heard and believed. Reopening that verdict now, years later, would not serve justice — it would ask the men he abused to prove, all over again, what a jury already found to be true.

We're asking Attorney General David Sunday and Pennsylvania's courts to continue vigorously opposing any attempt to overturn Sandusky's conviction or sentence, in state or federal court.
