We oppose the UK government's proposed 5-point plan to restrict legal immigration. This plan, spearheaded by James Cleverly, introduces severe measures that jeopardise our society, economy, and ethos of inclusivity.

 

The plan includes:

 

1. Restricting overseas care workers from bringing dependents, burdening firms with CQC regulations.

2. Increasing immigration surcharges to £1035.

3. Raising salary thresholds to £38,700 for visas, affecting skilled workers and families.

4. Eliminating the 20% discount for shortage occupation lists and reviewing/cutting these lists.

5. Reviewing the graduate visa route, potentially penalising genuine aspirants.

 

These policies penalise essential workers, deter skilled immigrants, and create a hostile environment contrary to our values. Legal immigrants enrich our nation, filling skill gaps, contributing significantly to our economy, and enhancing our diverse culture.
