This morning I woke up and perched in one of our taller trees was this beautiful, stoic red-tailed hawk—hunting for breakfast. We spent about 30 minutes in the same space. The air was quiet. The desert was alive with natural activity.

It's moments like this that we need to protect within our desert. Especially here on the West side of Tucson. Close to Tucson Mountain Park and Sagauro National Park (West). When I think about the "western option" of the proposed Interstate 11—a plan geared purely for economic interest of the developers, the transportation industry, and the politicians who support them—I feel sick to my stomach. These decision makers don't live here. They don't experience moments like this everyday.

Please—share this petition if you feel so inclined—and let's tell our lawmakers that we DO NOT want a freeway cutting through the Altar Valley west of Tucson like a permanent and deadly disease. I can't think of anything I want to protect more than moments like this. Even when we can't be witness to them.
