Stop installation of a 27 metres lattice telecommunications tower Glasson

Stop installation of a 27 metres lattice telecommunications tower Glasson
The Issue
On Tower Ireland Ltd is seeking planning permission for a 27-metre lattice telecommunications mast and all associated support structures in Pearsonsbrook Glasson.
Residents of Pearsonsbrook Glasson and surrounding townlands strongly oppose the installation of a 27-meter telecommunications mast in their area. The proposed mast, set to be situated on a high site close to several homes, would be an unsightly blight on the landscape, highly visible from the surrounding hinterland and approach roads.
The scale and siting of the mast would break the existing natural site line of the ridge and would be double the height of existing trees, towering over homes and green spaces.
This visual intrusion is particularly concerning given the area's location within the scenic Lough Ree and Shannon corridor, where natural beauty is paramount. The mast is also set to be close to listed archaeological and architectural sites.
Additionally, the residents recognise the growing concerns about the potential health implications of living in close proximity to such a structure, with studies suggesting possible links between long-term exposure to electromagnetic fields and various health issues.
The community acknowledges the importance of advancing telecommunications and broadband infrastructure but questions the necessity of an additional mast, especially considering there are already three existing masts in the area, with one 18-meter mast having received planning permission as recently as 2021. We do not want Glasson to become a hotbed for telecommunication masts.
Please sign this petition to show your support in opposing the installation of this mast.
Additionally, submissions can be made to Westmeath County Council up until Monday the 24th of June 2024 costing a fee of €20. Planning reference number 2460175
