Hello everyone,

Today, it’s #WorldAfroDay, a global day of change to celebrate Afro hair, culture and identity. It is a day to raise awareness and normalise Afro hair as part of our society. Australian private schools still enforce uniform policies that make it hard to be Black - that must stop now.

Right now, can you email NSW Attorney General to explicitly protect Black students under the Anti-Discriminatory Act?

World Afro Day was started by Michelle, a mum who “wanted every little child of African descent to feel... good about their hair.” [1] On 15 September 2017, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights endorsed the World Afro Day. This day is about making the ‘fro natural and accepted.

I hope for a time when every day can be World Afro Day; when we can comfortably honour our natural hair and heritage without fear of biases. I want to help create a world where culturally-diverse students don’t have to internalise Euro-centric beauty standards.

Can you help send a message to Mark Speakman to join our campaign?

Thank you for supporting me in my campaign - all this momentum we have created wouldn’t have been possible without your continued support.

James
