Dear supporters,
After NSW Education Minister's underwhelming response, we are taking the campaign to the NSW Attorney-General today. Surely, together they can figure out how to make schools a safe space for everyone!
Today, can you tweet this to help bring attention to our campaign?
If you have ever felt any form of hair discrimination at school, please feel free to tweet your own image and tag @Smitchellmlc and @MarkSpeakman calling them to #stophairdiscrimination #protectblackstudents
Our leaders must acknowledge that racial discrimination against people based on their natural hair is a very real phenomenon that is severely impacting young people. We deserve to grow up confident and proud of who we are and how we look.
In a statement to Hack ABC, the NSW Department of Education responded that they don't have control over uniform policies of private schools. I don't think that gets them off the hook - if students are experiencing discrimination, they should be doing all they can to stop it.
Please, can you help us make noise and tweet this?
I want to see an inclusive environment in schools where everybody can be their natural selves. If the current laws fail to effectively provide that protection, then we must amend them.
