(Para Español vea abajo) Next Wednesday: Mexican Goverment Attends Hearing w Inter American Commission on Human Rights. Support Relatives of 43 disappeared students. Dear friends, Next Tuesday on July 26th, will be 22 months of students' disappearance during Iguala attacks, and not many results have been achieved by Mexican authorities. However, independent investigations made by GIEI and Argentinian Forensic Anthropology Team have been conducted with professionalism and mindfullness with the relatives of disappeared students and victims of Iguala attacks. Therefore, we consider that these investigations and resulted recommendations have been the right avenue for eventually achieving accountability and justice. I would like to thank your support. We have reached 108 signatures online supporting Special Monitoring Mechanism. As you may remember the SMM was recommended by the Inter American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and it was presented by relatives of the 43 disappeared students of Ayotzinapa to Mexican authorities. Negotiations have not been smooth and after a couple of meetings, and many protests, there is still resistance of Mexican government for providing full access to information, including access to military headquarters, as well as accepting regular visitis by rapporteurs appointed to follow up investigations. After protests in US supporting teachers of Oaxaca and Peña Nieto's visit to the White House, we have been able to collect 600 signatures in paper. This petition will be delivered to Mexican authorities and the IACHR next Wednesday, when Mexican government and relatives of 43 students will meet with IACHR to define the SMM. Apoya a los familiares de los 43 normalistas desaparecidos. Queridos amigos, El próximo martes 26 de julio se cumplen 22 meses de la desaparición de los normalistas durante los ataques en Iguala y no ha habido resultados de parte de las autoridades. Sin embargo, las investigaciones independientes del GIEI y el Equipo Argentino de Antropología Forense se han realizado con profesionalismo y respeto para los familiares de los normalistas y víctimas de los ataques de Iguala. Por ello consideramos que estas investigaciones y recomendaciones emitidas son las instancias correctas para obtener rendición de cuentas y, eventualmente, justicia. Quiero agradecerles su apoyo. Si bien recuerdan el MES fue una de las recomendaciones de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH) y fue una propuesta presentada por los familiares de los normalistas el pasado mayo a las autoridades mexicanas (SRE y SEGOB). Las conversaciones para acordar este mecanismo no han sido fáciles, después de varias reuniones, protestas de los familiares frente a la SRE y PGR, el gobierno mexicano todavía está reticente para garantizar el acceso a la información, incluyendo el acceso a cuarteles militares, así como las visitas regulares sobre terreno de los relatores designados para supervisar los avances de la investigación. Después de las protestas en EU en apoyo a los profesores de Oaxaca y la protesta con motivo de la visita de Peña Nieto a la Casa Blanca, hemos recabado 600 firmas en papel que pensamos entregar al gobierno mexicano y a la CIDH el próximo miércoles 27 de julio, cuando se lleve a cabo una audiencia del gobierno mexicano con la CIDH. Esta reunión entre familiares de los 43 normalistas con sus abogados, el gobierno mexicano a través de la subsecretaría de Derechos Humanos de la SEGOB y la CIDH es muy importante porque en ella se van a definir los términos del MES.
