Stop Illinois' Cuts to Homeless Services—Restore Housing Funding Now
The Issue
In a year when homelessness in Illinois has surged by 116%, the state just slashed over $14 million from housing programs—including $26.6 million from Home Illinois, Governor Pritzker’s signature plan to end homelessness.
This is more than a budget line. These cuts mean fewer beds, less rental help, more families evicted, and more people left on the street. The Court-Based Rental Assistance Program alone helped 7,500 households last year. That program just lost $25 million.
Lawmakers say this is a “maintenance budget.” But homelessness doesn’t wait—and neither can we. Demand that Illinois restore full funding to Home Illinois and prioritize affordable housing, eviction prevention, and permanent solutions for our growing housing crisis.
We’re not asking for miracles. We’re asking for the state to honor its own commitment to ending homelessness. The programs are working. But without funding, they can't continue.
Add your name if you believe Illinois should protect its most vulnerable—not push them further to the margins.
