Stop illegal use of e-bikes, bicycles, scooters and the like
The Issue
As a frequent visitor and owner at Sherkston Shores, I have personally witnessed the imminent danger posed by the misuse of e-bikes, scooters, bicycles, skateboards, and similar vehicles. It’s no exaggeration to say that I have narrowly avoided becoming the victim of a serious accident due to the reckless and illegal operation of these modes of transport.
Sherkston Shores, a beautiful and lively community that attracts tourists and residents alike, deserves to be a safe haven for all of us who want to enjoy its wonderful amenities and scenery. Yet, the increasing presence of individuals who operate these vehicles recklessly and outside the boundaries of the law turns our cottage life into a potential danger zone. These are accidents waiting to happen, jeopardizing not just the riders' safety, but the safety of everyone around them—including families with children, the elderly, and individuals with mobility challenges.
Recent studies and statistics underscore the reality that improper use of these vehicles can and does result in serious injuries and fatalities. In many cities, enforcement of existing laws and the introduction of new regulations have led to significant reductions in incidents and have promoted safe and responsible riding practices. If nothing is done at Sherkston Shores, it is only a matter of time before we witness a tragedy that could have been prevented.
We propose a multi-faceted approach to address this issue:
1. **Clear Signage and Education:** Informing both residents and visitors about the rules and safe practices for operating these vehicles can increase awareness and reduce incidents.
2. **Increased Law Enforcement:** Regular patrols by local authorities should be implemented to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations.
3. **Designated Areas:** Establish specific zones where these vehicles can be used safely, minimizing risk in heavily trafficked pedestrian areas.
4. Ban the use of e-bikes, scooters etc on boardwalks
5. **Community Involvement:** Encourage residents to report any reckless behavior to authorities and participate in local safety initiatives to foster a responsible and safer environment.
The safety and well-being of Sherkston Shores must be a priority. We ask the management to take immediate and decisive action to stop the illegal and dangerous use of e-bikes, scooters, bicycles, and skateboards.
