Stop ICE incarcerating innocent people.
Stop ICE incarcerating innocent people.
The Issue
To President Biden,
On February 19, 1942, an executive order was issued, forcing thousands of innocent people into incarceration in internment camps due to their heritage; today, even though they are not citizens, America is incarcerating hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent people because of their nationality. Because they want a better life for them and their children, they are treated like an enemy and a threat - they are locked in unsanitary cages, children are ripped away from their parents only to be verbally abused and traumatized in crowded cages; the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) fails to follow basic sanitary and health measures: in a Georgia ICE detainment center, a nurse refused to give an inhaler to a detainee having an asthma attack, not only did he not receive a medical evaluation, but, said nurse lied that he was examined; in Pennsylvania ICE correctional officers strapped a mentally ill male detainee, while a female correctional officer conducted a strip search using a pair of scissors; mentally ill detainees are pepper sprayed; detainees are held in solitary confinement for an average length of 27, meanwhile, which not only violates ICE guidelines, but even exceeds the threshold of 15 days, set by the United Nations (UN) . The United States of America is a free nation, but not everyone is treated equal, even people who have been living in the country for years are being detained just because of where they were born. While their is the American dream, it seems that some are excluded from the prospect of a better life. So, in the name of democracy, of freedom, of all that which this nation stands for, which men and women have served (and for some gave the ultimate sacrifice for) , let us all unite and strive for the basic human rights which have been stolen from those who just want for a safe life and for their children to have a better life.
