Stop ice from tearing families apart
Stop ice from tearing families apart
The Issue
I know people who have been forcibly removed from their homes by ICE. Families who have lived in their community for years, contributing to the wellbeing of the neighborhood, paying taxes, and raising their children to be upstanding citizens, only to have their lives turned upside-down by sudden deportation orders or ICE raids. This isn't just about policies; it's about real lives and the fabric of our communities being torn apart.
The aggressive tactics employed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) often result in families being separated and long-standing community members being removed without just cause. A report from the American Immigration Council notes that many deportations involve individuals with no criminal record, tearing children from their parents - sometimes leaving them stranded or forcing them into state care.
Moreover, numerous studies have shown that the fear of ICE raids can have detrimental effects on community trust and public safety. For instance, people may avoid reporting crimes or hesitate to testify in court out of concern that it will bring ICE's attention to themselves or their loved ones.
The United States prides itself on being a nation of immigrants and a land of freedom and opportunity. Yet, the practices of ICE are antithetical to these values. It’s time for the Federal Government to reassess the role and tactics of ICE. We are calling for a comprehensive immigration reform that humanely addresses undocumented residents' situation and permanently ceases the wrongful tearing apart of families.
By signing this petition, you are standing up for equal treatment, justice, and the humane treatment of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status. The time to act is now. Let us unite to bring about change and protect the sanctity of family and community.
