Stop I-Ready for the WHRSD district

Stop I-Ready for the WHRSD district
The Issue
As a concerned member of the WHRSD district community, I am speaking out against the implementation of the I-Ready program in our schools. This software, which is intended to supplement classroom learning, often overwhelms students and rehashes lessons they have already understood in class. The result is increased stress and frustration for our children, who feel pressured to engage with material that doesn't advance their education but rather repeats it.
I-Ready has been marketed as a tool to personalize learning and enhance student outcomes. However, countless accounts from students, parents, and educators tell a different story. The program's computer-based nature removes the personal interaction that is critical in education, replacing it with more screen time at a young age. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, excessive screen time can lead to issues such as decreased sleep quality, lower physical activity levels, and impaired social and cognitive abilities.
Moreover, I-Ready's algorithm-driven lessons often miss the nuances of individual student needs, leading to a one-size-fits-all approach that is widely regarded as ineffective. This blanket method can demotivate students, making them feel as though they’re not progressing or being challenged enough. Education should inspire curiosity and enthusiasm—this program’s repetitive nature stifles that excitement.
Many educators have voiced concerns about the additional workload the program places on students. Instead of focusing on creative and critical thinking, students are being asked to revisit the same information they’ve already mastered. This not only causes boredom and disengagement but also risks burnout at an early age.
The WHRSD district prides itself on fostering a nurturing educational environment. Continuing to use I-Ready contradicts this mission, as it undermines the valued interaction between teacher and student. We are calling on school officials to recognize these issues and consider phasing out the use of I-Ready in favor of more effective, engaging educational tools.
Sign our petition to urge the WHRSD district to prioritize innovative and meaningful learning experiences. Let’s give our students the education they deserve.
